Green Bay Packers’ Quay Walker has said sorry for shoving a Detroit Lions training staff member after becoming the only NFL player to be ejected twice this season following a similar incident in October.

The linebacker was removed from the game following his second altercation with a member of an opposing team’s staff this season. He was ejected after members of the Lions’ training staff came onto the field to tend to an injured player.

It comes less than a week after a member of the Buffalo Bills training staff was on the field saving the life of safety Damar Hamlin as he suffered from cardiac arrest.

‘I want to apologize publicly about what happened Sunday night. I reacted off of my emotions again and take full responsibility of making another stupid decision,’ Walker wrote on Twitter Monday morning.

‘Since then I’ve questioned myself on why did I do what I did when the trainer was doing his job!! I was wrong!!

‘I understand I have to face everything that comes with the decision I’ve made and I’m definitely paying for it now.

‘Also to explain my frustration in the tunnel. I wasn’t upset about being kicked out, I just knew I messed up again and was wrong for what I did and couldn’t believe I did it again. To the Detroit lions and to the entire training staff including the person I did that too. I’m sorry.’

Walker was seen on camera shoving the staff member in the back with two hands. At an alternate camera angle, when NBC showed the replay on Sunday Night Football, you can see Walker’s shove as well as DT Devonte Wyatt bumping into him.

He did this right in front of a referee, who instantly threw a flag and ejected him from the game.

The incident came late in the fourth quarter of Green Bay’s 20-16 loss to the Lions which booted them from the playoffs and allowed the Seattle Seahawks to take their place.

This is not Walker’s first ejection for this offense in his young NFL career. Back in October, he was tossed from Green Bay’s 27-17 loss to Buffalo.

After that incident, Walker spoke with the media and explained the ejection from his perspective:

‘So I was making a tackle on the sideline when my former teammate… as I was getting up I felt somebody push me from behind and I probably misinterpreted it on what it was.

‘But I just felt the push and I’m on they sideline, feelings just flowing and you know I’m very hyped and everything like that. And I just reacted out of emotion.

‘Then right away, as soon as I did that, I regretted it… something imma have to live with, something I have to face… But I apologize to the guy that I did push – although I did feel like I was pushed but that may not have been the case, but at the same time I’m sorry for what I did and I just gotta face it.’

The NFL has not announced if Walker will receive a fine for his actions last night. Green Bay finished their season with an 8-9 record.
