Packers: 3 players who won’t be on the roster by September 1

The Packers want to construct a roster to win a Super Bowl this year. That’s why these three players should be concerned about their future in Green Bay.

Any team paying Aaron Rodgers over 13% of their total salary cap is clearly engaged in “win now” mode. It’s Super Bowl title or bust for the Green Bay Packers this season.

The good news for players on the Packers roster at the moment is that the depth chart is pretty stable. There shouldn’t be a lot of surprise personnel moves between now and the start of the regular season.

One position group that still needs a healthy infusion of talent before training camp concludes is wide receiver. Rodgers is an MVP-level quarterback but the departure of Davante Adams leaves a lot of production to fill in the team’s passing game.

3. Samori Toure

Toure was drafted in Round 7 as somewhat of an afterthought by the team’s front office. He was reasonably productive during his collegiate career at Nebraska but it’s hard to see what physical traits he possesses that will allow him to excel at the next level.

The front office would love for him to flash in the preseason and make the team out of training camp. His lack of size and top-level speed will make it difficult for him to stand out during the preseason. The likely eventuality that Green Bay will sign a veteran wideout to compete for a starting job on the outside means one of the lower profile options will lose their spot on the roster. Toure seems like the most likely guy to end up on a practice squad as opposed to the 53-man roster.
