Massive news has come in for the Kentucky Wildcats, as superstar talent Oscar Tshiebwe has announced he’ll be back next season.
A major offseason win has arrived for the Kentucky Wildcats and head coach John Calipari. That’s because the reigning Naismith Player of the Year has decided that his NBA dreams can wait for at least another year.
On Wednesday, UK standout Oscar Tshiebwe announced that he’ll be back with the team for the 2022-23 campaign. Obviously, this is massive for the Wildcats, as Tshiebwe didn’t want the first-round exit from this year’s tourney to be his last memory with the squad.
Oscar Tshiebwe returning has Kentucky basketball fans fired up
Tshiebwe was nothing short of fantastic this past campaign, as he averaged an impressive 17.4 points and 15.1 rebounds per outing. With his strong play, Tshiebwe was also the SEC Player of the Year, which just about everyone saw coming.
There was plenty of speculation in recent weeks that he could end up making the leap to the NBA, but that won’t be happening. With this Tshiebwe news, Kentucky hopes of bouncing back in the NCAA Tournament next season just went up in a major way.
No one will forget how the team’s season ended this year, as they were a No. 2 seed and figured to roll past No. 15 Saint Peter’s. Instead, the Peacocks pulled off one of the biggest upsets hoops fans have ever seen.
Tshiebwe and his teammates were deflated following that loss. Countless fans thought this group had the potential to win it all, but a first-round exit came instead. Looking ahead to next year, Tshiebwe will be ready to ball out and make sure the Wildcats are playing at a high level from start to finish. Again, this is a huge win for Calipari and his staff.
