Oscar-nominated actor Michael Lerner dies at the age of 81

Veteran, Oscar-nominated actor Michael Lerner has passed away, his nephew and actor Sam Lerner said. Michael Lerner was 81-year-old. Sam Lerner posted on Instagram, “We lost a legend last night.” Lerner received Oscar nomination for his performance in Barton Frink in 1991.

“It’s hard to put into words how brilliant my uncle Michael was, and how influential he was to me. His stories always inspired me and made me fall in love with acting. He was the coolest, most confident, talented guy, and the fact that he was my blood will always make me feel special. Everyone that knows him knows how insane he was— in the best way. I’m so lucky I got to spend so much time with him, and we’re all lucky we can continue to watch his work for the rest of time. RIP Michael, enjoy your unlimited Cuban cigars, comfy chairs, and endless movie marathon,” Sam Lerner wrote on Instagram.

Lerner was born in New York’s Brooklyn in 1941. He studied drama at Brooklyn College. Subsequently, Lerner earned Fulbright scholarship. He was also in London for two years.

Later, Lerner was invited to join San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theatre.

Lerner appeared in films such as Class Reunion, Harlem Nights, Newsies, Blank Check, The Beautician and the Beast, Godzilla, The Mod Squad, Elf, Poster Boy and X-Men: Days of Future Past, to name a few.

Apart from films, Lerner appeared in television shows such as The Good Guys, The Brady Bunch, The Bob Newhart Show, M*A*S*H, The Odd Couple, Starsky & Hutch, Rhoda, Kojak, Wonder Woman, Hill Street Blues, The A-Team, Courthouse, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Kingdom Hospital, Saving Grace, The Good Wife and Suburgatory.
