Orioles promote top prospect Gunnar Henderson for playoff push
The Baltimore Orioles are bringing in reinforcements as they look to make a final push for a wild-card spot in the American League.
Top prospect Gunnar Henderson was promoted by the team with rosters expanding on Sept. 1. However, by recalling Henderson before the roster expansion, it will make the 21-year-old eligible to be included on Baltimore’s playoff roster should the club qualify.

Henderson has made a rapid rise up the team’s minor-league rankings, posting a .297 batting average and .947 OPS with 19 home runs, 79 walks and 116 strikeouts in both Double-A and Triple-A.
By waiting until now to promote Henderson, Baltimore ensured he will fall short of 45 days of service time this season as Baltimore Sun columnist Nathan Ruiz explained, allowing him to retain his rookie eligibility in 2023 if he also records fewer than 130 regular-season at-bats.
