OnlyFans announces huge backflip
OnlyFans has reversed its decision to prohibit sexually explicit content on the platform, the company announced in a statement.
Online subscription platform OnlyFans has reversed its decision to ban sexually explicit content.
The website, which has a reputation as a hot spot for influencers and sex workers to post sexually explicit photos and videos, had announced on August 20 the ban would begin in October.
“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,” OnlyFans said in a statement.
But now OnlyFans has backflipped on that decision.
In a message posted on Twitter, a spokesman said: “We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change.
“OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators.
“An official communication to creators will be emailed shortly.”
OnlyFans allows fans to pay a monthly subscription between $5 and $50 to view images and videos.
They can also pay for exclusive content and give tips to creators.
The website hosts a range of content, including chefs, fitness instructors and musicians.
However, the most popular content is adult content and pornography.
OnlyFans reportedly was pressured into making the proposed changes in October due to pressure from payment providers and banking partners.
It said the diversion away from sexual content would aid in its ability to raise more than $1 billion from outside investors.
The new rules would have likely made it difficult for sex workers to sell their usual sexually explicit content.
