Ola to launch first electric car by 2024, introduces new S1 scooters

Ola Electric said that it will launch its first electric car by 2024, at a press briefing in Bengaluru on Monday, to coincide with celebrations of India’s 75 years of independence.

Ola Electric also launched a sub Rs 1 lakh version of its maiden scooter on Monday.

Ola CEO and founder Bhavish Aggarwal said that the car project is biggest the country has ever seen and the company will build a separate facility next to its two wheeler factory in Tamil Nadu for manufacturing it. Ola’s electric car will have a range of about 500 kilometres.

The expanded 1,000 acre facility will also house the company’s cell manufacturing facility. Aggarwal said that the company will start deploying its own cells on its vehicle by the end of next year.

The launch of an affordable version of S1 pro, called S1, comes at a time when Ola is struggling to sell its maiden vehicle following a fire incident and multiple quality control issues.
