Ola launches vehicle commerce platform Ola Cars

Ride-hailing startup Ola announced the launch of Ola Cars, its vehicle commerce platform.

Through Ola Cars, one can purchase new and pre-owned vehicles, the company said in a statement on Thursday. It will offer services including purchase, vehicle finance and insurance, registration, and maintenance among others.

Although Ola Cars will first be launched with pre-owned vehicles, it will, over time open it up for new vehicles from Ola Electric and other automotive brands as well.

It will begin operating in 30 cities and expand to 100 by next year, the statement said.

The company also appointed Arun Sirdeshmukh as chief executive officer of Ola Cars. “He will oversee sales and distribution, service, marketing, customer support, and go-to-market strategy for the business,” it said.

“With Ola Cars, we are bringing a completely new experience for buying, selling and overall ownership for both new and owned vehicles. I look forward to working with Arun and building this core pillar of our New Mobility vision,” said Bhavish Aggarwal, founder and CEO, Ola.

Sirdeshmukh said the company has plans to expand aggressively over the next few months across India and international markets and also launch new verticals in this business including pre-owned two-wheelers and new vehicles.

Earlier this week, Aggarwal announced that the
company has acquired geospatial services provider GeoSpoc. He did not disclose the size of the acquisition.

Last week, its electric vehicle manufacturing arm, Ola Electric, said it had
raised over $200 million, led by Falcon Edge Capital and Japan’s SoftBank, at a valuation of $3 billion. Ola Electric is building its two-wheeler EV factory at Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.
