According to multiple reports, the Edmonton Oilers and goaltender Stuart Skinner have reached an agreement on a three-year, $7.8 million extension. The contract breakdowns over three years at $2.3, $2.5 and $3 million.
Skinner, 24 was a pending restricted free agent. He is in his fourth season with the Oilers and up until this season he primarily played with the Oilers’ AHL affiliate the Bakersfield Condors.
Last season he saw 13 starts with the Oilers, posting a 6-6 record along with a .913 save percentage (SV%) and 2.62 goals against average (GAA). With the Condors he posted a 22-7-7 record along with a 2.21 GAA, .920 SV% and five shutouts.
In 19 games this season while sharing the net with a struggling Jack Campbell, he’s posted a 9-8-1 record while holding a 2.83 GAA and .915 SV%.
The Edmonton, Alberta native was selected by the Oilers in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft. He signed with the Oilers organization in May of 2018 after capturing the Western Hockey League (WHL) championship with the Swift Current Broncos. He primarily spent his major junior time with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. In 2016-17, Skinner led the Hurricanes on a crazy WHL run. He started a whopping 60 games that season and posted a 34-18-5 record along with a 3.26 GAA and .905 SV%.
