Ohio State commit called out Michigan’s WR coach for sliding into his DMs

Ohio State wide receiver commit Bryson Rodgers put Michigan wide receiver coach Ron Bellamy on blast on Twitter for trying to flip him.

There was drama in the Big Ten on Wednesday between rivals Ohio State and Michigan, all thanks to one ill-advised tweet from a recruit.

Bryson Rodgers, a four-star wide receiver, decided to put rumors that he could be flipped to bed by posting screenshots and calling out Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy by name.

Rodgers has since deleted his tweets but Eleven Warriors preserved the text:

“Well, ttun and their staff must not get the memo that I am committed to The Ohio State University. mr Ron Bellamy / the wide receiver coach there is a prime example here shown below. lost a bit ?needs help? i have no clue. silly goose. Im a buckeye for life. #gobucks,” Rodgers said.

Ohio State WR commit Bryson Rodgers had no time for Michigan recruiting

Attached to the tweet was a screenshot of Bellamy checking in with him twice saying, “What’s going on B” with no answer. The recruit responded with “go bucks.”

Later, he tried to minimize the tweet with some clarification.

“Its all fun. Please no one get in their feelings and take things so serious. People that know me know I barley talk and a very quiet person. Just having a little bit of fun. Us buckeyes like to have fun you know. buckeye nation I love yall so much man .#gobucks,” he wrote before deleting both tweets.

Rivalry is meant to be fun and this is certainly a wild example of how rivalry sometimes presents itself.

Still, Rodgers took down his tweets for good reason. It’s really not a good look to name and shame a rival coach over the simple act of reaching out. If the player wanted to highlight the strength of his commitment to Ohio State, he could have done so without naming names or schools.

Moreover, Bellamy was just doing what any good recruiter should. The Buckeyes just landed commitments from Brandon Innis, Carnell Tate and Noah Rogers, Top 50 wide receivers who vastly outrank Rodgers. A coach who didn’t reach out to a player in that situation would be shirking his responsibilities.
