Oh dear, it’s time to retire after this nightmare scorecard

A poor local cricketer appears to have bowled the worst over ever recorded in Australia. The scorecard is an absolute bloodbath.

Nathan Bennett found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, bowling the wrong deliveries.

A scorecard from a local Western Australia D-Grade competition may have just revealed the worst over ever bowled in Australian cricket.

The poor bowler was tonked for 50 runs in one over. The mind-blowing miracle came on the back of eight consecutive sixes struck in the eight-ball over that included two no-balls.

It was the first and last over Bennett bowled as his Kingsley-Woodvale Cricket Club was flogged by Sorrento-Duncraig in a first innings bloodbath on Saturday.

Sorrento-Duncraig reached 6/276 after 40 overs while Kingsley-Woodvale reached 8/154 from 40 overs.

Sorrento-Duncraig had two batters score centuries in the North Suburban Community Cricket Associaciation fixture in Perth.

The only redeeming part of the scorecard for Bennett was his first innings score of 28 was the second highest score for his club.

That doesn’t mean he will ever live down this nightmare over.

ABC Sport on Twitter asked if it was the most expensive over ever bowled. Fortunately, for Bennett, that honour belongs to someone else with the worst over ever bowled belonging to a local New Zealand first-class cricketer.

Kiwi Bert Vance in 1990 bowled a 77-run over that still boggles the mind — the most expensive over in first class cricket.

Bowling a ridiculous number of full toss no-balls, Vance was hit into a different dimension with five consecutive sixes at one point.

According to ESPN, Vance bowled 16 consecutive illegitimate deliveries (no-balls and wides) at one point. It will go down in history that the over was stopped early after only five legitimate deliveries bowled in 22 attempts.

Lee Germon scored 70 runs in the over, including eight sixes and five boundaries.

Harshal Patel currently has the record for the most expensive over ever bowled in top-level T20 when he was smashed for 37 when bowling for Bangalore in the IPL.

Bennett and his team have a chance to bounce back when they face Marmion Cricket Club on Saturday.
