Notre Dame and USC are ready to embark on the next phase of the epic rivalry with Playoff and Heisman implications hovering over the matchup in Los Angeles.
The USC and Notre Dame rivalry has given college football some of the most entertaining games and memorable performances over the years.

Michael Mayer won’t have more than 100 yards receiving
Ever since Utah’s Dalton Kincaid blew up the USC defense for 16 catches, 234 yards and a touchdown, people have been waiting for Michael Mayer to get a crack at the Trojan defense. After all, Mayer is one of the most dangerous tight ends in the country.
So here’s a hot take: Mayer won’t break 100 yards receiving against the Trojans.
That’s not to say Mayer will get shut down by USC. They’re just going to have to put a lot of focus behind stopping him from doing to them what Kincaid accomplished. Kincaid surprised everyone. Mayer doesn’t have the element of surprise on his side.
Instead, Notre Dame is going to need to rely on Lorenzo Style, Jayden Thomas and Braden Lenzy to take advantage of all the attention put on Mayer.
The passing game could ultimately be opened up because of Mayer’s threat, even if he doesn’t have the production to show for it. Of course, it would help if Drew Pyne gave those guys a chance to make plays.
