Norwich are set to appoint Frank Lampard as their new manager, according to reports.

Lampard has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea at the start of 2021 but he quickly emerged as a leading candidate for the position at Carrow Road following Daniel Farke’s dismissal and talkSPORT now report he will be hired.

Norwich sit bottom of the Premier League with just one win from 11 games and Lampard will be tasked with staving off the threat of relegation.

Petr Cech, who played alongside Lampard at Chelsea, told talkSPORT he is not at all surprised he is returning to management in the top-flight.

Cech said earlier on Thursday: ‘He has all the qualities to be a Premier League manager.

‘If anybody is interested and anybody comes to speak to him, if they have the right project for Frank, he loves football and loves coaching with the same passion he had for playing.

‘I’m not surprised his name is coming up now and will only be a matter of time before he returns to the Premier League.’

Farke was relieved of his duties despite guiding Norwich to their first win of the Premier League season in a 2-1 victory at fellow newly-promoted side Brentford.

That result still leaves Norwich at the foot of England’s top-flight on five points, level on points with Newcastle who are still without a victory this term following their 1-1 draw at Brighton.

Lampard has been out of a job since his sacking by Chelsea in January and has been patiently waiting for his next project.

He took over the reins at his old club under a transfer embargo and impressively led the team to fourth place in his first season as well as taking them to the FA Cup final.

But the following campaign he found himself under huge pressure following some demoralising defeats and was replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who went on to win the Champions League against Man City in the same campaign.

Lampard started his managerial career in the Championship with Derby County.

Lampard used his contacts in the game to bring in youngsters such as Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount on loan and they thrived.

He managed to guide the Rams to the Championship play-off final before they lost out to Aston Villa, who today appointed Steven Gerrard as their new manager.
