In celebration of the life and legacy of the late Virgil Abloh, a visionary across fashion, art, and culture, Nordstrom has launched Concept 018: Virgil Abloh Securities. The New Concepts@Nordstrom platform is dedicated to discovering the best in fashion through partnerships with some of the world’s most exciting brands, curating custom-built shopping environments online and in-store. Its latest collaboration with the Abloh estate intends to uphold and maintain the ethos behind all of Abloh’s endeavors, unifying each project under one shopping destination, including his fashion label Off-White, creative studio Alaska Alaska, art store Canary Yellow, and the Church & State merchandise from Abloh’s “Figures of Speech” exhibition and the Brooklyn Museum.

Nordstrom’s Men’s Fashion and Editorial Director, Julian DeLeon, tells Vogue exclusively, “This project, like many things Virgil worked on, began with a WhatsApp conversation a few months after I’d started at Nordstrom. After getting on a call with his team and Sam Lobban (Nordstrom’s EVP GMM, Apparel and Designer), it was clear there was a larger opportunity to bring Virgil’s unique way of seeing the world to our customers. I’ve always been impressed by the way he represented a new kind of consumer and cultural thinker with one foot firmly in the digital world, and one in the physical one—long before anyone was familiar with the term “metaverse.”
The shop will feature a range of women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, accessories, and shoes, as well as an exclusive Off-White Capsule collection, apparel capsules from Denim Tears x Canary Yellow and American skateboarder Sal Barbier and Off-White, and an Off-White fragrance. Nordstrom is also a major sponsor of Abloh’s retrospective “Figures of Speech” exhibition, open now through January 2023. Concept 018 will include apparel like tees and hoodies as well as accessories featured in the exhibition.
For DeLeon, “The Off-White capsule is a personal favorite because of how meta it gets. His team dug into Nordstrom’s own graphic archives to resurface a logo we haven’t used since the 1970s but seems fresh and relevant today. They also found a way to turn his graffiti handstyle into a typeface, which adorns several pieces like varsity jackets—an item that Virgil was particularly fond of in his collections.”
Alongside the launch, Nordstrom is pledging their support of the Virgil AblohTM “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund. The fund hopes to foster equity and inclusion in the fashion industry, providing academic scholarships to students of Black, African-American, or African descent.
“I hope the shop inspires a new generation of creatives to pave their own paths in fashion and beyond. Opening doors for the underprivileged was an important aspect of what Virgil did, and part of his legacy is the blueprint he wrote for anyone to follow in his footsteps,” says DeLeon.
This collection of products will be available to shop online starting August 11 through the end of October, as well as at 15 select retail locations. Apparel capsules from Denim Tears x Canary Yellow and American skateboarder Sal Barbier and Off-White, and an Off-White fragrance will be available to shop in mid-September.
