Non-surgical chin augmentation craze on a rise – Times of India
As one ages, the shape of the face changes due to bony resorption. Fillers can be used to address various symptoms of a complex aging process. One feature of nonsurgical interventions is that they can be done at various intervals across the time continuum, as one continues to change with aging. They wear off gradually over time and can be adjusted and tailored to fit one’s unique aging needs.
Chin augmentation is a cosmetic enhancement that can strengthen the jawline and chin, bringing an under-defined lower face into greater harmony with the upper face to overcome such aging changes. A chin augmentation procedure can elongate, widen or increase the projection of the chin to enhance your look.
The non-surgical, non-invasive chin reshaping, non-surgical genioplasty involves the use of a dermal filler, Evolence or Restylane injected to reshape and contour the chin to achieve a natural aesthetic appearance, in a quick, safe and effective out-patient treatment.
The most popular and commonly used method of chin augmentation uses an injectable implant (filler). Most fillers are temporary with results lasting months to years. Common temporary fillers include hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite preparations. Permanent fillers, like ‘free’ silicone, have fallen out of favor due to the risk of migration, chronic inflammation and infection, which can permanently disfigure the chin.
Recommended techniques and procedures for correction of the chin.
It is recommended to inject a multiple bolus of the PCL- or CaHA-based soft tissue filler in the by a 27G, in each lateral site. The bolus is then massaged in order to evenly distribute the product over the area. If the results are still not satisfying, then a second bolus (50% less volume than the initial bolus injection volume), should be injected again in the same area. However, the total amount per site should not exceed 0.5cc of product, while usually 0.25cc per site is enough. Therefore, it can be reasonably assumed that the maximum filler needed is one syringe (1cc), while half of the syringe most likely will be enough in the majority of cases.
Anyone who desires an increased projection of the chin, a more defined jawline, or a better neck contour may be a candidate for non-surgical chin augmentation. Patients with a small or weak chin can improve the balance of their face using an injectable filler – Evolence or Restylane. Also, patients who have deformities of the chin either from birth or from injuries can achieve significant improvement without the pain, risk and recovery associated with surgery.
Minimal discomfort is expected during the treatment and no bruising should occur with the careful techniques used. Any mild bruising will usually resolve after 1 week. Your chin may feel tender for the first 3 – 5 days. Mild discomfort, swelling and bruising can occur. Reactions following Restylane or Evolence are rare.
Restricted activities are advised for 48 hours following non-surgical chin reshaping. Normal activities can be resumed thereafter.
The results of Nonsurgical chin Augmentation last for around 24 months.
