No one except MS Dhoni messaged me after I quit Test captaincy: Virat Kohli | Cricket News – Times of India
“I’ll tell you one thing. When I quit Test captaincy, only one person who I played with messaged me. That is MS Dhoni. A lot of people have my number. People give suggestions on TV. People have a lot to say. But all those who had my number didn’t message,” Kohli made the revelation after the match against Pakistan here on Sunday.
According to him, the sense of security between him and Dhoni stood out during the last eight months. “When you have respect for someone and that’s genuine, then it looks like that because there is a sense of security on both sides. Neither does he need anything from me nor do I need anything from him. I was never insecure of him neither was he,” Kohli added with a straight face.
This phase has also helped him to see through people. “Somehow, I live my life with honesty and I can see through these things. I won’t say these things don’t bother me, but you see the truth. When you play for this long with honesty, the almighty rewards you. As long as I am worthy of playing, I’ll play this way.”
There have been a lot of experts in the media who have backed Kohli, but he reckons that matters little. “I will only say one thing. If I want to say something about anyone, I will say it individually. If you really want to help. If you give those suggestions in front of the world, that has no value. If that is supposed to help me, you should talk one-on-one. If he genuinely wants me to do well,” he stated.
