NIA to probe Khalistani elements’ attacks on Indian High Commission in Canada,US
The attacks on Indian High Commission in Canada and the US by the Khalistani elements will be investigated by the National Investigation Agency, reported ANI citing Delhi Police sources. Reportedly, there have been multiple cases of attacks and protests by Khalistani elements outside Indian High Commission in the two countries.
FIRs were registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) by Delhi Police Special Cell regarding the March 2023 attack in Canada, and San Fransisco (US). The case is now transferred to the NIA.
Lately, Pro-Khalistan supporters in the US recently threatened the Indian embassy and Indian Ambassador the the US Tranjit Singh Sandhu during their protest.
During their rally, a protestor in his speech gave a direct threat to the Ambassador. He said that the “hypocrisy” will come to an end and that an Ambassador could face a similar fate to that of former Indian president Zail Singh in 1994.
US gives stern warning to protesters
In response to direct threat by Khalistani protestors, the US has said that ‘violence or the threat of violence against diplomatic facilities and personnel in the United States is a grave concern and will not be tolerated.” Notably, there have been multiple incidents of protests by supporters of Khalistan outside the Indian Embassy and the San Fransisco Consulate as well.
The US has publicky criticised such violent incidents that have taken place during protests at Indian diplomatic facilities in the country.
Moreover, in March 20, the Indian Consulate was also attacked in San Fransisco. In one of the viral videos, pro-Khalistani protestors gatherred at the consulate in San Fransisco, and they were seen shouting slogans in support of pro-Khalistan leaders Amritpal Singh. They were seen heckling staff as they abandoned the diplomatic mission.
In March this year, Khalistan supporters protested outside the Indian Embassy in Canada. During their protest they raised pro-Khalistan slogans and allegedly assauulted Indian-origin journalists present on ground.
