NHL best bets today (Wild will upset Stars in Central Division battle)

Two heartbreaking losses last night turned a potential 3-0 sweep to a 1-1-1 performance. The Penguins scored on a lucky bounce with three minutes left in the game to force OT, and eventually beat, the Avalanche, and the Predators pulled their goalie down three goals in the final minute to allow an empty net goal which pushed our UNDER 6 bet against the Golden Knights.

Gamblor giveth, Gamblor taketh away.

We had a ton of good luck in January, and now the luck is turning against us. It happens. All we can do is jump back into it and hope the puck bounces our way tonight.

We only have two games to bet on tonight, so let’s jump into them.

NHL best bets record-to-date

NHL best bets today

  • Rangers -1.5 (+105) vs. Canucks
  • Wild +120 vs. Stars

Rangers -1.5 (+105) vs. Canucks

I’m not a big fan of betting on puck lines, and I haven’t been successful with them this season, but this seems like a rare good spot to do it. This game is likely to be a matchup between one of the best goalies in the NHL in Igor Shesterkin, and one of the worst goalies in the NHL in Spencer Martin.

Martin has an .875 save percentage on the year and an abysmal 5.26 goals against average and .839 save percentage in the month of January. There’s no way I can back the Canucks in any fashion with an absolute liability between the pipes.

The Rangers have an expected goals for of 3.44 over their last 10 games and Shesterkin sports a .916 save percentage since the beginning of January. This is a recipe for a Rangers blowout of the Canucks.

Wild +120 vs. Stars

The Dallas Stars’ offense was amongst the best in the NHL through the first few months, but they’ve fallen off a cliff in that area lately which has resulted in a 4-2-4 record over their last 10 games.

Over that span, the Stars are 23rd in expected goals for per game, and now they face a Wild team that ranks 11th in that stat during the same stretch.

Filip Gustavsson gets the start for the Wild tonight, which is good news for Wild bettors. He has certainly been the better of two goalies for them this season, sporting a .922 save percentage on the year and a .929 save percentage dating back to Jan. 1.

I like Minnesota to pull off the upset tonight.
