NFL star Marquise Brown is sentenced in excessive speeding case but judge WAIVES $473 fine after the Cardinals wide receiver tells her ‘this is my first time ever getting into anything’
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown has been sentenced for a misdemeanor charge of excessive speeding, stemming from an August 2022 arrest in Phoenix.
The 25-year-old showed up in an Arizona court on Wednesday to receive his sentencing with the judge ordering him to pay a fine of $473, after he pleaded guilty in February, according to TMZ Sports.
However, Brown – the 25th overall pick of the 2019 draft – won’t have to pay a dime in the case, as Judge Cathy Riggs ultimately ended up waiving the fine and dismissing the NFL star after giving him credit for time served.
Brown can be heard thanking the judge at the hearing from up close before telling her: ‘This is my first time ever getting into anything.’
At trial, Brown’s defense argued that the former Baltimore Raven should be given the opportunity to complete a defensive driving school program to get the offense off his record, though the judge didn’t allow that to happen.

She said that Brown’s lawyer could file a motion after the hearing, and that it’d be taken up for consideration.
DailyMail.com previously reported that Brown was initially taken into custody on August 3, 2022 after he was caught driving at 126 mph in a 65 mph zone in a 2020 Mercedes on a highway in Maricopa County.
Brown faced two charges in relation to the case.
The first is related to exceeding posted speed, while the second involves violating HOV lane rules. On Wednesday, the second charge was dismissed as part of Brown’s sentencing.
Brown’s court hearing comes after the wide receiver played with inconsistency for the Cardinals last season — his first with the team.
As legal proceeding in his case unfolded, he played in 12 games, going for 709 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
On the first day of last year’s draft, Brown and the Ravens’ third-round pick were traded to the Cardinals for the 23rd pick in the first round. The swap also reunited Brown with his college quarterback Kyler Murray.
The Cardinals picked up the fifth-year option on Brown’s contract on April 28, 2022.
