NFL rumors: Former 1985 Bear could lead Chicago back to glory

If the Chicago Bears move on from Matt Nagy, they could potentially go out and replace him with a member of the famed 1985 Bears team.

It’s about time for the Chicago Bears to go ahead and move on from Matt Nagy. For whatever reason, Chicago hasn’t already found a new head coach to replace a guy who continues to struggle with leading the Bears to victory.

But if the Bears do decide to fire their current head coach, who would they replace Nagy with? Where could Chicago turn to find a new coach who could potentially get the Bears back to winning?

Well, one option might be a guy who played for a very prominent Bears team.

According to a report from ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, a member of the Super Bowl-winning 1985 Bears, might be connected to the head coaching gig in Chicago.

NFL coaching rumors: Will Chicago Bears fire Matt Nagy, hire member of famed 1985 team?

While there would be a lot of debate about whether or not it’s wise to make a hire of a head coach based off nostalgia, Frazier’s resume is pretty extensive. The 62-year-old Columbus, Mississippi native has coached in some capacity or another since 1988.

He started coaching in the NFL in 1999 when he joined the Philadelphia Eagles’ coaching staff as a defensive backs coach for Andy Reid. He has made his way to the Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, and now he’s currently with the Bills.

Frazier has been in Buffalo since 2017, acting as an assistant head coach and a defensive coordinator.

It might not be a bad fit, but there would certainly be questions around who Frazier would bring in to help develop Justin Fields, Chicago’s future at quarterback. If he could find the right guy to renovate the Bears’ offense, then this hire could potentially work out well.

But finding the right offensive coordinator has to be the top priority for Frazier should he get this gig.
