Newcastle United have made another off-field appointment as they continue their rebuild
His arrival follows the appointments of sporting director Dan Ashworth and chief executive Darren Eales.
The Magpies announced on May 30 that they had reached an agreement with Ashworth’s former employers Brighton to release him from his contract following his resignation in February. His appointment was approved by the Premier League in early June.
Ashworth, who has been appointed by Amanda Staveley’s consortium to oversee the club’s ‘overarching sporting strategy, football development and recruitment at all age levels’, is working closely with head coach Eddie Howe, academy manager Steve Harper and head of recruitment Steve Nickson.
He helped oversee a spending spree of £123million in the summer, including the £63m capture of highly-rated Swedish striker Alexander Isak.
