Newcastle put Conor Coady on target list with the Wolves skipper a favourite of Amanda Staveley’s advisor as the Toon prepare for potential Premier League survival battle

  • Newcastle have made Conor Coady a target ahead of potential rescue mission
  • The England international is a favourite of the Toon’s advisor Frank McParland
  •  It would take a sum of around £20million or more to lure him away from Wolves
  •  The Magpies have been linked to James Tarkowski, who worked with McParland

Newcastle are drawing up targets for January when the new owners will need to recruit for their Premier League rescue mission and Wolves skipper Conor Coady is the latest name to join the list.

The defender is said to be a favourite of leading advisor and Amanda Staveley’s trusted friend Frank McParland.

McParland is set to take a senior role at the club and worked with Coady at Liverpool as he rose through the ranks.

But it would take a significant sum of around £20million or more to persuade Wolves to let their star defender leave to join their rivals, according to The Sun.

But money is no object to Newcastle’s new owners who will reportedly be able to spend as much as £190m in January and stay within the financial fair play rules.

The Toon rebuild will have to begin with a new manager before transfer targets can be locked in but insiders have revealed Coady is actively in their discussions for January.

Coady was given the captain’s armband by previous Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo and has led the Midlands outfit to two seventh and a 13th places finish since promotion to the Premier League in 2018.

Newcastle’s potential survival fight will have to have a solid foundation which the England international can easily strengthen with his experience, leadership and playing skills.

The Magpies have been linked to James Tarkowski ahead of the January transfer window, who also played under McParland at Brentford as well as at Turf Moor.

The 28-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at Burnley and will be free to leave for nothing at the end of the season.

But the England international has a gentleman’s agreement in place with Burnley that the club will not stand in the way of a January move.
