What a wind-up! Newcastle happy to annoy Manchester United, teases Kieran Trippier, after Erik ten Hag hit out at the Magpies for time-wasting ahead of the Carabao Cup final
Kieran Trippier has warned Erik ten Hag that Newcastle will have no problem irritating Manchester United today if it means victory in the Carabao Cup final.
Ten Hag has accused the Magpies of consistent time-wasting and says they are an ‘annoying’ team to play against.
But Trippier, who will lead out Newcastle at Wembley, said: ‘Some teams are not happy with us this season, but it’s about being clever in that moment, about using your experience.
‘Opposition fans are not going to like it either, because it’s against their team.
‘But as a neutral, it’s good to see. I don’t see why everyone’s kicking off about it. I love it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

‘But I have experienced it a lot in Spain, it’s about knowing when to slow a game down. If you want to be successful, you have to manage the game well and at the right time.’
In the day before the showpiece final at Wembley, Newcastle fans have taken over Trafalgar Square to celebrate making their first final in 24 years.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s players arrived in the capital, with Marcus Rashford among them, despite concerns that the striker could miss out with injury.
