Jurgen Klopp’s resurgent Reds made more ground on the Premier League’s top four, as they moved to six points within Newcastle with a 2-0 win at St James’ Park.
Liverpool’s forwards were firing from the go with Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo both on target before Nick Pope was sent off for handling the ball outside of his area.
Nunez, who later went off injured, emphatically fired home 10 minutes in before Gakpo doubled Liverpool’s lead after being teed up by a sublime assist from Mohamed Salah.
It was a massively disappointing afternoon for the hosts and their misery was only compounded with Pope picking up suspension for Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final against Man United next week.
