New York Jets ‘want Aaron Rodgers to pass the baton to Zach Wilson in TWO YEARS’
REVEALED: New York Jets ‘want Aaron Rodgers to pass the baton to Zach Wilson in TWO YEARS’ in a quarterback masterplan after trading for the four-time MVP, 39, last week
The New York Jets have a quarterback masterplan involving Aaron Rodgers and Zach Wilson, after finally bringing the 39-year-old quarterback to the Big Apple last week.
Rodgers already appears to be loving life in New York, attending the Rangers and the Knicks games over the weekend and has already began practice with his team.
When he was unveiled to the media last week, Rodgers hinted he would be prepared to play into his 40s and it now appears the Jets have a plan in place involving the quarterback he is replacing in Zach Wilson.
According to ESPN, the Jets want two seasons out of Rodgers before he then ‘passes the baton’ back to Wilson after mentoring the 23-year-old for those seasons.
There are, of course, mitigating factors at play here – Wilson only has two years remaining on his Jets deal while if things go well, Rodgers might push to play on for longer.

But so far, Rodgers has spoken positively of Wilson and wants to forge a relationship with him.
‘I think being around me and seeing how I go about my business, seeing how I lead, how I interact with the guys, I think there are some things he can pick off from that,” Rodgers said.
‘Part of my opportunity here is to be a great mentor to him, and to teach him fundamental stuff, to allow him to be around me and, through osmosis, just pick up some things that can help him in his career.
‘I love him, I really do. I feel like part of my role here is to help get his confidence back.’
Rodgers was also asked about Wilson’s infamous quote that he would make a rival quarterback’s life at the Jets hell. Wilson made the remarks months before Rodgers moved from the Packers.
‘He’s going to make my life hell in practice and I’m going to make his life heaven off the field,’ Rodgers said.
Wilson himself has been quiet since Rodgers got into town but his influencer mom Lisa shared a post confirming the move to her Instagram story with several applause emojis.
But in the past, Wilson has gushed about how much he admires Rodgers.
Speaking last October, Wilson said: ‘I’ve been watching him since I was a little kid, trying to replicate the way he throws, the way he plays the game.
‘We didn’t have an NFL team in Utah. I wouldn’t say I was a Packers fan. I was just an Aaron Rodgers fan. I grew up watching him.
‘I always liked watching their games because of him and kind of where he was at. He was a quarterback I tried to replicate and steal things from.’
In the meantime, Rodgers wants to lead the Jets to their first Super Bowl title since 1969.
Speaking at his unveiling last Wednesday, he said: ‘I’m an old guy. So I want to be part of a team that can win it all. I believe this is a place we can get it done.
‘I noticed, walking in this morning that Super Bowl III trophy is looking a little lonely… I really believe this is where I’m meant to be.’
