New details emerge about disgraceful slur that saw ex-NRL bad boy Josh McGuire cop 12-week ban
New details come to light about disgraceful slur that saw NRL bad boy Josh McGuire cop 12-week ban that should end his footy career
- Josh McGuire banned for 12 weeks in UK Super League
- Follows a seven-week suspension in February
- Warrington now likely to tear up his contract
Josh McGuire has likely played his final game of professional rugby league after the former NRL enforcer copped a 12-week ban for a disgraceful on-field slur.
The 33-year-old was referred straight to the Super League tribunal for using ‘unacceptable language’ when playing for Warrington in a match against Leigh on May 26.
According to the Vossy and Brandy Breakfast Show on SEN, McGuire allegedly uttered a highly offensive remark about a rival player’s disabled relative.
McGuire pleaded not guilty and was issued the lengthy suspension – plus a fine of $1860.
The charge came under a rule put in place to stamp out ‘verbal abuse based on race, colour, religion, gender, sexual preference, disability and ethnic origin’.

The ban comes after the Wolves forward was also suspended for seven matches in February after being found guilty of making a racist slur directed at fellow Aussie Tom Amone following a pre-season match.
A highly polarising figure, the former Queensland Origin star moved to the UK looking for a fresh start – but it now believed the Wolves are looking at terminating his contract on disciplinary grounds.
A veteran of more than 250 NRL matches with the Broncos, Cowboys and Dragons, McGuire served two five-match suspensions while at the Red V in 2021.
In addition, he was fined $12,000 by the NRL and suspended for one game after breaching the game’s Covid-19 biosecurity protocols for attending Paul Vaughan’s now infamous team BBQ.
McGuire was also called a ‘grub’ by many reporting on the code and is said to be vastly unpopular with a high volume of players from rival NRL clubs due to his niggling on-field nature.
His rap sheet includes multiple allegations of eye gouging, dissent towards referees and many high shots.

Back in 2019, former Sea Eagles premiership-winning prop Mark ‘Spudd’ Carroll stated McGuire needed to change his game or run the risk of repeated suspensions.
‘I’m getting sick of his antics. He’s like a human grub, seriously,’ Carroll said.
‘If he was playing in my era he would be whacked. I can guarantee we would fix him up.’
