Netizens slam Asha Parekh as she expresses her disappointment over Indian women choosing western clothes – Times of India

Asha Parekh, who recently attended the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFi) in Goa, opened up about westernisation of Indian women. However, her comments have not gone well with a group of netizens.

Speaking at a session, the Padma Shri recipient said that everything has changed, even the films that are being made. The actress believes that girls are wearing gowns to Indian weddings instead of ghaghra choli, saris, or salwar-kameez. According to her, they just watch the heroines on the screen and wish to copy them. They just want to wear the clothes that are worn by the actors on screen. Parekh added that she is very sad about westernisation.

As soon as her comments made their way onto social media, they went viral. Netizens dismissed her ideas, calling them ‘regressive.’ She is also getting criticised for her comments on plus-sized women who wear modern clothes. However, Asha Parekh’s fans came to her defense. They claimed that the veteran actor’s comments were misconstrued.

Earlier, Jaya Bachchan had also made headlines with her comments on Indian women, who choose to wear western outfits. According to the senior actress, western clothes give ‘manpower’ to a woman.
