Netizens school Nawazuddin Siddiqui for calling depression an ‘urban concept’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has landed in trouble for his recent statements about depression and mental health. The actor had called depression an ‘urban concept’ and stated that people glorify their emotions in the cities.
Hailing from Budhana village in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, Nawazuddin stated that no one is diagnosed with depression in his village and that he got to know about mental health-related subjects like anxiety and depression and bipolar disorder, after coming to the city.
These statements of the actor have landed him in a soup. One Twitter user wrote, “What a disappointing remark from @Nawazuddin_S #Depression isn’t determined based on age, gender, background, profession, ethnicity or domicile. #MentalHealth conditions don’t discriminate & neither should we. Such generalisation are dangerous, invalidating & misleading.” Another tweet read, “Nawazuddin Siddiqui says depression is an urban concept born out of privilege: ‘No one gets depression in villages’ Ok, let’s ignore farmer’s suicides and assume you are right. If something is an urban concept – do we just ignore it cause it’s urban ??” Another user wrote, “Bro villages have much greater issues with this regard… Literally seen so many villagers with schizophrenia, OCD and psychosis in my training. There are so many such issues that go unnoticed thinking depression is the only mental health issue and that it’s all for the cities!!”
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is going all out with the promotions of his next entertainer, ‘Jogira Sara Ra Ra’. He also has ‘Haddi’, ‘Adbhut’, ‘Tiku Weds Sheru’ and ‘Bole Chudiyan’ in the pipeline.
