Netflix releases The Witcher: Blood Origin’s teaser, Michelle Yeoh stars as sword elf

Netflix’s live-action prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin teaser is out. Here’s where you can catch it now.

Netflix dropped the first glimpse of The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel to Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Anderzej Sapkowski’s dark fantasy novel series. The trailer was initially revealed as a post-credits scene in The Witcher season 2. There’s much more to the series than just Geralt.

The upcoming live-action prequel stars Michelle Yeoh as a sword elf, Scian, one of the protagonists of the tale who is on the hunt for a powerful missing blade. However, the lead character of this series will be Sophie Brown’s Eile, a warrior who wants to become a travelling musician instead. The series will cover the cataclysmic period called the ‘Conjunction of the Spheres’, the moment in the Witcher universe where humans, elves and monsters all merged to become one.

Netflix drops trailer for The Witcher

The video streaming platform described it as an “epic prequel series depicting the creation of the prototype witcher and the events leading to the pivotal ‘Conjunction of the Spheres.’”

The trailer focuses on Brown’s Éile as she connects with two other elven companions: Laurence O’Fuarain’s Fjall, and Michelle Yeoh, the beloved actress as Scian. While the trailer doesn’t give much idea of the story, there are scenes of Éile, Fjall, and Scian traversing vast, barren landscapes littered with fires and cairns, travelling with small bands of fellow elves, and also training each other for coming battles.

The trio can be seen defending some kind of ruin from a force of heavily armored soldiers as Éile holds the backline while Fjall and Scian carve a path through their oncoming foes with swords and shields.

Blood Origin is just one part of an almost MCU-style Netflix universe that revolves around The Witcher. Though the exact release date has not been revealed, the series is slated to hit the OTT somewhere in 2022. The OTT streamer has confirmed the same through a few cryptic images of maps and props from the series.

Meanwhile, 2022 seems like a great year for Michelle Yeoh’s fans. The actor apart from, wielding a sword in Blood Origin, will also be seen tackling a multiverse of her own in the trippy-looking Everything Everywhere All At Once. The series will hit the theatres by March 2022.
