CAPE TOWN – The Netball World Cup trophy has finally arrived in Cape Town, exactly three weeks before the start of the tournament.
The trophy will now stay in the host city at least until the tournament wraps up on 6 August.
Capetonians will have an opportunity to see it from Saturday before the first match in the city on the 28 July.
The Netball World Cup trophy has been handed over to the City of Cape Town Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews.
This after it did a six-week countrywide tour.
Andrews said Cape Town was more than ready to host the tournament.
“And we sincerely hope the trophy will remain on African shores, will remain on Cape Town’s shores. We wish all the teams success but we’re also very biased towards the team we’re supporting.”
This is the first time the tournament is being hosted on African soil.
