Neiman Marcus Group to hire 600 people for India centre

Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus Group will hire 600 people in India over the next 8-12 months, a senior executive said.

The US-based retailer launched its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India this week, where it currently employs about 60 people.

“At Neiman Marcus our job is to revolutionise luxury experiences…and technology is the backbone of everything that we’re going to do,” said chief product and technology officer Bob Kupbens.

In June last year, the retailer, which also operates the Bergdorf Goodman brand, said it would invest $500 million in technology over the next three years to update its stores and improve delivery times.

“The company is investing more than $500 million to drive sustainable growth through digital commerce to deepen relationships with our customers in order to make their lives extraordinary,” said Kupbens, who is familiar with the role an India GCC can play for a global retailer, having earlier helped US retailer Target set up its centre in India 15 years ago.

“We need to find the best talent in the world to help us deliver the experiences…that’s going to keep us in the leadership spot in luxury retail. That’s why it made sense for us to set up a centre here,” he said.

NMG has partnered with ANSR, which works with companies to set up their captive units.

“Global firms cutting across industries are turning to India’s tech talent to support their digital transformation. The GCC in Bangalore will enable NMG to attract the best talent and build advanced capabilities in emerging technologies such as Web3, Blockchain, AR/VR, AI and ML,” said Lalit Ahuja, chief executive officer (CEO), ANSR.

The centre will work on areas including the support and development of the main customer app as well as another app used by its sales executives, apart from cybersecurity and cloud initiatives.

“We’re very focused so far on technology, but we intend to expand that to a variety of business functions,” Kupbens said on the long-term vision for the centre.
