The 2023 Met Gala welcomed guests to show off their interpretation of this year’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The evening saw dreamy archival pieces, reinterpretations of vintage Chanel, and many a lengthy train. Complementing the styles worn on fashion’s biggest night, the beauty choices offered a handful of statement-making moments—many, too, in honor of Karl. For some, that meant voluminous blowouts adorned with bouncy black bows or an effortless Parisian chicness a la soft-sculpt cheekbones and rosy pink blush, while others sought out a more feline transformation (we’re looking at you Doja Cat, who arrived as Karl’s precious Choupette)—either way, the best beauty looks left us eager to recreate the moment ourselves.
The simplest way to do that? Shop the lipsticks that accentuated the guests wore to the big gala. There were timeless red lips from the likes of Lily Collins and Miranda Kerr. Or, barely-there, mauvish pink tones on Kate Moss and Anne Hathaway. And many statement-making pouts began with a hydrating, smoothing treatment. “Whenever we have a big lip moment, like tonight, I lather Fenty Skin Plush Puddin’ on her lips the second we start glam, even though the lip color application is the last thing we do” says pro makeup artist Priscilla Ono on perfecting Rihanna’s enviable crimson lip. “I love for her lips to really soak up all that hydration, so her lips are full and smooth so that color just glides on.” The same could be said for Alexandra Daddario and Allison Williams, whose lips were given TLC treatments by Skinfix and Ourself, respectively.
