NBC affiliates shade women’s golf during PGA broadcast

NBC affiliates broadcasting the Women’s PGA Championship screwed up the final hole of a dramatic finish with mistimed commercials and graphics.

The Women’s PGA Championship went down to the wire as In Gee Chun erased Lexi Thompson’s two-stroke advantage to claim the title.

Frustratingly, some viewers trying to watch the drama unfold were fuming as NBC affiliates made  multiple coverage blunders.

The issues arose after Thompson opened the door for Chun with multiple bogeys on the back nine. She tried to give herself a chance with a putt for birdie on the 18th hole. That’s when some NBA affiliates decided to cut to a commercial break.

And that wasn’t the only mishap.

Along with the commercial break, which forced some to miss the drama completely, some affiliates also screwed up Chun’s winning putt, obscuring the hole with station graphics.

While not everyone had a clear view of it, Chun sunk the five-foot putt to clinch the victory.

It was a huge day for the 27-year-old South Korean, who won her third major championship and her first since 2016.

It was also an egg-on-face moment for the broadcasters who clearly weren’t taking the competition seriously to give it the coverage it and the viewers deserved.

Hopefully, everyone learns from this and the blunders don’t plague future broadcasts but that feels like wishful thinking.
