NBA: Simmons set to be traded
Ben Simmons’ NBA career is in limbo, but the Australian star looks set to earn a second chance via a crucial trade.
Ben Simmons’ messy trade standoff with the Philadelphia 76ers is set to finally end, with reports the Australian star could be traded “within the week”.
The three-month saga involving Simmons and the 76ers has captivated the hoops world, with both parties standing their ground.
Sixers coach Doc Rivers confirmed Simmons has requested to be traded following reports the Australian doesn’t want to come back to Philadelphia and is prepared to be fined and suspended for failing to show up to pre-season camp.
Rivers remained hopeful the Melbourne-born guard would change his mind, but this looks extremely unlikely.
Philadelphia wants to secure a worthwhile trade for Simmons, and it appears they could receive their wish sooner rather than later.
According to reports, the 76ers could secure a trade for their Aussie guard as early as next week.
A host of teams have been mentioned as potential landing spots for Simmons, although one shock contender emerged on Friday in the Denver Nuggets.
The Nuggets, a Western Conference contender, possess star players like Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.
Even some of Simmons’ former friends in Melbourne took to Twitter on Friday to link their mate to Denver.
However, the 25-year-old has been linked with a host of teams previously and the Sixers have reportedly been exploring every option.
The Nuggets join Cleveland, Minnesota, Golden State, Toronto, Houston, Washington, Sacramento, Portland, and San Antonio in being reported to have entertained the possibility of trading for Simmons.
If nothing eventuates, it appears unavoidable the Sixers will have to move Simmons for a less-than-desirable return.
