Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is currently in the news for his movie Tiku Weds Sheru, recently opened up on his 2012 crime-drama Gangs of Wasseypur, and why he was admonished by director Anurag Kashyap on the very first day of shoot.

In a recent interview, Nawaz said that he was so inspired by Hollywood legends Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, that when he bagged his big role in Gangs of Wasseypur, he started behaving like The Godfather star.

Elaborating, the actor said that he used to mimic Al Pacino and even walk and talk like him. However, when he reached the set of Gangs.., he was pulled up by Anurag Kashyap, who asked him to drop the mask and be himself. Nawaz further said that even though he could not sleep all night thinking about what Anurag had said, be returned to the set next day, as just himself. Nawaz further added that to play a a powerful character, one does not have to mimic a great actor and he had learnt his lesson.
In an earlier interview, Nawaz had said that he will only be doing lead roles in movies now. The actor also added that he need not be a hero but the role must be important in the narrative.

In an interview with a news portal, Nawazuddin said that he will still work with Salman Khan and Shah Rukh if it is a strong role in a big film. According to him, the distinction between lead and side roles matter in this industry. In Europe or Hollywood, it does not matter. But here, supporting actors are relegated to secondary roles. Nawaz added that he has been successful in escaping and that he doesn’t want to repeat that. He stated that he will only do lead roles even if he has to invest money in the film himself.
