NASCAR Cup Series: Who won the Pennzoil 400?

The NASCAR Cup Series raced at Las Vegas this weekend for the Pennzoil 400.

Every time the NASCAR schedule brings the sports’ top-three series to Las Vegas, there’s always a guarantee for some incredible racing.

On Friday night, Kyle Busch was utterly dominant in the Craftsman Truck Series, easily winning the race at his hometown track.

On Saturday, Austin Hill of the Xfinity Series powered past 20-year-old Chandler Smith at the white flag to win his second race of the year.

Heading into Sunday, 2022 Cup Series champion Joey Logano secured the pole. William Byron formed the other half of the front row.

NASCAR: Who won the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway?

While Joey Logano wrecked out of the race, going from first to worst, William Byron saw his fortunes go in the opposite direction. The 25-year-old secured his fifth career victory thanks to 175 laps led on the day.

Byron won the first two stages of the day and battled Kyle Larson for the majority of the race. Larson was leading with three laps to go before Aric Almirola hit the wall and drew a caution right at the end of the race.

After the top competitors came to pit road to get two tires, the field was reset, this time with Martin Truex Jr. leading since he elected not to pit. He was quickly overtaken by Byron, who went on to hold off teammates Larson and Alex Bowman.

Byron’s victory marks the third different winner in as many races to begin the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season.
