musharraf: Pervez Musharraf’s family says reports of his death untrue – Times of India

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s family on Friday denied reports of his death, saying that he was not on a ventilator but described his condition as incurable.
“He is not on the ventilator. Has been hospitalised for the last 3 weeks due to a complication of his ailment (amyloidosis),” the family said in a post via Musharraf’s official Twitter account. “Going through a difficult stage where recovery is not possible and organs are malfunctioning. Pray for ease in his daily living,” the statement added.
The All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), the political party established by Musharraf, also said news regarding his death was false. “General (R) Pervez Musharraf is at home and he is doing okay. He has been under treatment for his ailment,” the APML statement read, asking the public to pray for his speedy recovery.
Dr Muhammad Amjad, Musharraf’s close associate, said the 78-year-old former military ruler was admitted to hospital after he complained of difficulty in breathing.
Musharraf’s family and APML issued separate statements after rumours of his death surfaced on social media and were also reported by some Pakistani and Indian publications.
Musharraf’s ailment was first announced by the overseas wing of APML in 2018, saying that he was suffering from amyloidosis.
Amyloidosis is the name for a group of rare, serious conditions caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body. The build-up of amyloid proteins (deposits) can make it difficult for the organs and tissues to function.
The former dictator, who had left for UAE in 2016 on account of medical treatment, has not returned to Pakistan since then.
In 2014, he was indicted for suspending Pakistan’s Constitution on November 3, 2007.
In December 2019, a special court had sentenced him to death in a high treason case.
