Right from childhood he was inclined towards music. A well-known actor Motilal, who was also a relative of Mukesh, discovered his talent while he was performing at his elder sister’s wedding.
Motilal brought a 17-year-old Mukesh to Mumbai and introduced him to music directors. Dil Jalta Hai To Jalne De from the 1945 film Pehli Nazar was Mukesh’s first super hit song. He then went on to sing the song Zinda Hoon Is Tarah Ke Game for the biggest showman of India, Raj Kapoor, from the 1947 film Aag. It was his second super hit song. Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo, Ruk Ja Wo Janewali, Awara Hoon, Mera Joota Hai Japani and many more are his greatest hits.
In his singing career spanning over 35 years, Mukesh has sung 1054 songs in 12 languages out of which 531 are Hindi songs. He has sung most of his duets with the legendary Lata Mangeshkar.
