Lenovo-owned phone maker Motorola is set to expand its smartphone portfolio in the Chinese market with the launch of the new Moto X40 device. The company has confirmed that the new handset will launch in China today (December 15). The upcoming smartphone will arrive as a successor to the Moto X30 that was launched earlier this year. It is important to note that Motorola is not using the Edge branding in China. So, rumours suggest that the company will offer the Moto Edge 40 Pro smartphone (global variant) as Moto X40 in the Chinese market.

The company has already confirmed a few key specs of the upcoming phone. However, some of them remain mere speculations. Motorola has already confirmed that the device will come powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship processor.

Moto X40 is rumoured to pack up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. For photography, the device may house a triple rear camera setup that will support 4x optical zoom and include — a 50MP primary unit, a 50MP ultra-wide angle lens and a 2MP macro shooter.
The handset is also expected to support an under-display fingerprint sensor and may arrive with IP68 water and dust-resistant rating. Moto X40 may ship in two different battery models — a 4,500mAh battery unit that supports 68W fast charging and a 5,000mAh battery unit that supports 125W fast charging. The device is likely to run My UI 5.0 based on the Android 13 operating system out-of-the-box.
