Montoyo: Blue Jays aiming for Gausman to return Tuesday
Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said starting pitcher Kevin Gausman isn’t well enough to return Sunday and the team is aiming to have him back in the lineup Tuesday.

Gausman has been sidelined since last Saturday due to a bone bruise on his right ankle that he sustained when he was hit by a line drive against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The 31-year-old Gausman, who joined the Blue Jays this season after signing a five-year contract, has a 6-6 record with a 2.86 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 16 starts.
Sunday’s starting pitcher in the finale of a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners remains to be determined. The Blue Jays have Monday off and return home for a two-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies starting Tuesday.
Montoyo also said the Blue Jays held a players-only meeting during their road trip.
Toronto (45-40) is hanging on in the third and final wild-card spot just past the midway mark of the season. The Blue Jays have cooled considerably losing seven of their last eight games with the Mariners (43-42), Cleveland Guardians (41-41) and Baltimore Orioles (42-44) close behind.
“The leadership had the meeting, closed doors, I think it’s awesome,” Montoyo said according to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.
