The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for three districts of Kerala on Wednesday. Heavy rains have led to waterlogging, uprooting of trees, and damages to residential and commercial buildings in several parts of the state.
The Met department has forecast moderate to extreme rainfall in the state for the next three to five days. “The State Emergency Operation Centre has been operationalized with representatives from various departments and the National Disaster Response Force,” Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
The IMD has issued a red alert for Idukki district on Wednesday as well as an orange alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. An yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.
