Monsoon likely to cover entire India in next two days: IMD
New Delhi: The southwest monsoon will likely cover the whole country in the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
“Active monsoon conditions likely to continue over central and adjoining northwest India during next two days and along west coast over the next three days,” the weather office said in its latest bulletin.
After cyclone Biparjay weakened into a low-pressure area, the monsoon current gathered pace advancing rapidly across the country and bringing rains. This has helped reduce all-India rain deficit to 16% from 33% last week.
As the current remains strong, the weather department has issued heavy rainfall warning for the whole country.
Eastern parts of Rajasthan are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall today and on Friday, and Uttarakhand today. Light to moderate showers are likely over Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana for the next two days.
Heavy rains with thunderstorm and lightning are expected over Madhya Pradesh in the next two days, and western parts of the state will get very heavy rainfall till Friday.
Light to moderate rainfall is forecast over Konkan, Goa and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and heavy to very heavy rains are seen in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh over the next five days. Heavy rainfall may occur over Bihar today and on Friday.
Kerala, Mahe, coastal and south Interior Karnataka are expected to recieve light or moderate rain for the next five days, ending Monday. IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over coastal Karnataka in the coming five days, in south Karnataka on Sunday and Monday, and in Kerala today and on Sunday & Monday.
The weather office does not see any significant change in maximum temperatures in the next 24 hours and a rise of 2-4 degree Celsius, thereafter. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over the rest of the country till Monday, IMD said.
