Food challenges are fun, but sometimes such fun activities turn dangerous as people cross the line of safety and that is when accidents happen. In a recent incident, a 25-year-old man died after eating 150 momos in a momo-eating food challenge worth Rs 1, 000 with a friend.
The incident took place at a stall at Gyani Mor in Siwan district of Bihar, where the deceased Vipin Kumar signed for a bet of Rs 1,000 among friends over who could eat the maximum number of momos and he later slumped to the ground unconscious after eating 150 momos.

While his friends thought he was faking it to fool them but later realised that he was unconscious and rushed him to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead.
As per Shashi Ranjan Kumar, Thave station house officer (SHO), the deceased ate a large number of momos after accepting a challenge with his friends and later his friends took him to a private hospital after he fell unwell. The doctors there declared him dead.
As per the deceased’s family, his friends poisoned him and later abandoned him near a hospital. The family also mentioned that they didn’t even inform them about the death. As the officer-in-charge of the case, they are waiting for the post-mortem report to know about the cause of death.
Earlier, in June 2022, a 50-year-old man died due to choking on momos, after which the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) had issued an advisory on India’s beloved snack that everyone should ‘swallow with care.’
