Model Lauren Wasser Went from Balenciaga to Disneyland in One Epic Paris Trip

Normally when Lauren Wasser heads to a fashion show, she’s walking down the runway, but this season the model-activist decided to view from the front row. Wasser headed to Paris Fashion Week to take in shows like Balenciaga and Lacoste, enjoying a week of reconnecting with old friends, visiting the sights, and generally having a good time. “Since the pandemic we have missed these times where we are all in one place and can hang and reconnect,” she shared from Paris. “This year was a little hectic because all of our schedules were insane, but I love seeing my friends win and slay the runway, doing what they do best and with such swag.”

Wasser knows a thing or two about swagger. Days before PFW started, she was strutting her stuff in the Savage x Fenty show, returning to Rihanna’s sultry spectacle for the second time in a row.  “Walking a show is like going out and playing a sport,” explains Wasser. “Your heart races, and you are just excited to soak up that moment. The energy you feel when surrounded by everyone and the clicks from the camera going off from every angle [and] filming.” By comparison, taking in shows from the audience means getting a chance to relax. “It’s less stressful for sure,” says Wasser. “I loved [seeing] the clothes from a different perspective. Watching the fabric and garments move and sway. Seeing the details on all of the pieces up close and personal on someone other than yourself. The only downfall is my checkbook honestly – watching the show in real-time, you see everything and want it all!”

When she wasn’t planning her spring wardrobe, Wasser reconnected with friends like fellow models Dilone, Alton Mason, and Selena Forrest, and took in events like French Montana and Killian’s fragrance bash. Her initial plan for her time in Paris involved a few touristy moments, but Wasser’s busy fashion week schedule didn’t allow much downtime. Still, she had fun stopping by the patisseries and enjoying the many baked delicacies French cuisine is famous for. “We didn’t get a chance to do a lot of the proper things. I wanted to visit the Louvre, but we saw it quite a bit driving by,” says Wasser. “With what little free time I had, I tried to eat. I was honestly just so excited to be back in the beautiful city of love, fashion, and the best croissants.”

Pastries are nice, but Wasser’s favorite moment of the week came at Balenciaga. The show, which featured a red carpet instead of a runway and treated guests to a special episode of The Simpsons, defied expectations. “It was like something straight out of a movie and like nothing I’d ever experienced,” says Wasser. “The crowds of people yelling for you, all the love and support felt so good. The bright lights, the huge red carpet, all the photographers. This was bigger than any show I’ve ever been a part of; I think I blacked out honestly [from] the adrenaline rush. Then to walk into the theatre and see us all arriving on the big screen was so cool. Demna Gvasalia showed out. The whole Balenciaga family outdid themselves. I’m grateful I got to be part of such an epic moment.”
