Mobile internet speed in India among slowest globally: Study – Times of India

Mobile internet speed in India is one of the slowest in the world according to the Digital Quality of Life (DQL) study conducted by cybersecurity company Surfshark. As per the findings, India ranks 59th among the 110 countries when it comes to global digital wellbeing. India has dropped two positions since last year.
For the study, Surfshark claims that it surveyed over 6.9 billion people and it evaluates nations on five points – internet affordability, internet quality, electronic infrastructure, electronic security, and electronic government. India is ranked 47th in internet affordability, 67th in internet quality, 91st in electronic infrastructure, 36th in electronic security and 33rd in electronic government, the study reveals.
If you compare India’s ranks with its neighbouring countries, you will notice that although India stands lower than Bangladesh in terms of electronic infrastructure, it ranks higher when it comes to internet affordability, internet quality, electronic security, and electronic government. India’s electronic security also happens to be better than China, it has improved by almost 76% since last year.
DQI study also reveals that India ranks 95th when it comes to individuals using the internet. The Internet affordability index has decreased by 75% since last year and now stands at 47th position. In 2021, people in India will have to work 1 minute and 15 seconds more to afford the cheapest 1GB mobile internet package, which is 40 second more when compared to 2020.
Overall, Denmark ranks 1st in the DQL index followed by South Korea and Finland. The countries that ranked last in the index include Ethiopia, Cambodia, Cameroon, Guatemala, and Angola.
The study also reveals that broadband internet is globally less affordable this year and people had to work 11% more to afford it.
