MLB Rumors: Jacob deGrom gets promising injury update

Jacob deGrom’s been injured twice in a Texas Rangers uniform so far, but he’s avoided disaster on both occasions. As great as deGrom is, he’s also one of the more fragile players in baseball, and we don’t mean emotionally.

deGrom ought to be wrapped in plastic off the field, in a giant box that reads F-R-A-G-I-L-E, like in the holiday classic A Christmas Story. Even that might not be enough to secure his long-term safety.

The Rangers ace suffered what looked to be a wrist injury the other night, but claimed he took himself out of the game as a precaution. On Tuesday night, deGrom received a positive injury update.

While the baseball world overreacted, per usual, to deGrom’s injury status, it appears he’ll make his next start.

“I felt it a little bit warming up,” deGrom said after the outing. “I thought it was going to loosen up and it actually tightened up a little bit as the game went on. We’re playing it smart. Could I have kept going? Probably. But it was lingering and it got a little bit worse as the game went on. I just want to play it safe. We’ve got a long season ahead of us.”

Thankfully, he won’t miss any time at all. deGrom is smart to be cautious given his history.
