MLB ROUNDUP: Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle destroys a cooling fan as New York is swept by the LA Angels for the first time since 2009

The New York Yankees have capped off a road trip from hell in humiliating fashion, as their chances of making the playoffs continue to slip away.

A slim chance of a comeback was destroyed by the eighth inning, with the Los Angeles Angels up to bat leading 6-3. Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle gave up a ground rule double to score a runner from second that essentially ended any hope of a victory.

Frustrated, Kahnle may have thrown his most accurate pitch of the night when he hurled his glove at a cooling fan in the dugout – destroying it.

The final score of 7-3 led to an Angels win and their first sweep of the Yankees since 2009.

It’s more frustration for a Yankees team that has won only one game in their last six – and only has two victories since the All-Star Break.

That’s seen them fall to last place in the AL East, nine games back of the now-division-leading Baltimore Orioles.

A delusional Yankees fan might remind you that those Yankees ended up facing the Angels again in 2009’s American League Championship Series – with New York winning in six, then winning the World Series.

But these Yankees look nothing like the cohort of 2009 – who boasted the likes of Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, and Robinson Cano in the field and Andy Pettite, CC Sabathia, and Mariano Rivera on the mound.

Instead, these Bronx Bombers have been suffering through injuries and an anemic offense that saw Gleyber Torres, Giancarlo Stanton, and DJ LeMahieu get one hit a piece while Oswald Peraza, Anthony Volpe, Harrison Bader, and Oswaldo Cabrera fail to make contact at all.

‘We stink right now. We acknowledge that,’ manager Aaron Boone said. ‘We’ve got to be better. We all understand where we are at.
