MLA assault: Tripura additional chief Electoral officer asks deputy commissioners to conduct inquiry

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Usha Jen Mog ordered to the District Election Officer,(DM & Collector)West Tripura, Agartala/Dhalai Distrct, Ambasa/ North Tripura, Dharmanagar besides the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura, Agartala/Dhalai Distrct, Ambasa/ North Tripura, Dharmanagar.I am directed to refer to the subject cited above and to send herewith a complaint received vide No. Nil, dated, 20/06/2022 from Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee against grim situation of terror and violence created by ruling BJP and its mafia elements seventy two hours before the by-elections to Agartala, Town Bardowali, Surma and Jubaraj Nagar assembly constituencies, murderous attack on Agartala candidate, five time MLA and former minister Sudip Roy Barman, prayer for drastic action to ensure free and fair polling in public interest. You are therefore requested to cause the enquiry on the complaint matter immediately and send an action taken report, in this regard at the earliest.“

Barman, who is now contesting from the Agartala constituency on Congress ticket, was seriously injured when allegedly attacked him late on Sunday night.

As 22 candidates of BJP, CPI-M led Left Front, Congress and the Trinamool Congress and other local parties put up their candidates, the by-elections would be multi-cornered. The votes will be counted on June 26.

Tripura Chief minister Manik Shah is contesting in the Town Bordowali assembly constituency seat. Saha became chief minister in May this year.
