Minkah Fitzpatrick is rightfully disgusted by his NFL Top 100 ranking

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick took to Twitter to complain about his latest ranking in the NFL Top 100 ranking.

The revelation of the NFL Top 100 rankings on Sunday wasn’t well met by all involved.

“I was tryna end my Sunday peacefully…smh,” Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick tweeted on Sunday night.

It just so happened Fitzpatrick’s tweet seemed to coincide with the reveal of his place among the NFL’s Top 100 players.

Fitzpatrick has a point on this one. Last year he checked in at No. 35. He’s now No. 52. That’s a steep drop for a player who is still very much at the top of his game.

It’s hard to imagine there are 51 players better than him in the NFL this year.

Minkah Fitzpatrick is not a fan of rankings and ratings this year

This isn’t the first time Fitzpatrick has been disrespected — and had something to say about it — this year.

When Madden ratings were released with Fitzpatrick given an 89 overall, ranking eighth among safeties, he was not happy.

The NFL Top 100 featured Broncos safety Justin Simmons ahead of him at No. 45 and Tyrann Mathieu at No. 58.

NFL.com’s DeAngelo Hall ranked Fitzpatrick No. 1 among safeties in the league for 2021. Opinions will differ from person to person, but it’s pretty clear Fitzpatrick belongs in the Top 3 at his position.

When Fitzpatrick tweeted his displeasure, Arizona’s Budda Baker and Seattle’s Jamal Adams were yet to be ranked. He could end up being judged as the fourth-best safety.

The lesson here might simply be that safeties aren’t valued enough by the players doing the voting.

The bigger takeaway is that rankings don’t always reflect reality. The best thing Fitzpatrick can do is use the perceived disrespect to push him forward this year. The sweetest revenge will be proving his fellow NFL players wrong about their perception of him.
