Microsoft brings advanced audio controls to Windows 11, here’s what’s new – Times of India

Microsoft has always allowed users to control the volume of individual apps that are currently running. Till Windows 10, the feature was placed within the speaker icon on the right side of the taskbar. All users had to do is right-click on it and choose the Volume mixer options. But, things changed with Windows 11 and the extended audio control got buried under the Settings app which users had to find it manually.
It looks like Microsoft is making amends in this regard as the latest Windows Insider Preview build of Windows 11 brings back the advanced audio control right within the speaker icon. Although, the company hasn’t officially confirmed the new control as users still need to enable it from the experimental flag.
What is this new audio control?
The new audio control is basically the volume mixer that we used to see with older versions of the Windows operating system. It’s just the glorified or let’s say Windows 11’s version of that. In this case, Microsoft has added a new icon right in front of the volume control slider under the quick settings. Clicking on it brings up a new page with the option to switch devices and adjust volume levels for different apps and services running on the device.
How it makes things easier for users
If you’ve used the volume mixer before, then you can understand its importance. If you haven’t, the volume mixer allows you to control the volume for every app. This helps users to permanently mute an app or adjust the volume of different apps, games, etc right from the taskbar.
Do note that the feature hasn’t yet rolled out the stable build. It’s being tested with select beta testers under the experimental flag.
